99 cent sale for this weekend

From March 27th to March 29th, I’m having a sale on Sylvia’s Torment, the second book for Enforcers and Coterie. Head to Amazon and check it out. If you love werewolves, Fae and magic, you’ll enjoy this. A wonderful blend of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. A review is always appreciated since word of mouth is so important for indie authors. 🙂

Second of the Enforcers and Coterie series, each one is a standalone book delving deeper into the world where magic co-exists peacefully with the ordinary, for the most part…

But not broken.

Derek wants Sylvia back–now. His Beta. His second-in-command. His lifemate. As a Top Alpha, few obstacles stand in his way. Even with near infinite resources at his fingertips, he feels useless. If he doesn’t find her soon, he’ll turn feral and destroy everyone in his way.

He waited to claim her…
Has time run out?

Three months since her abduction, Sylvia keeps a mental tally as day passes into night. Torture and endless rounds of experiments push her to the brink. Escape, rescue, it’s hopeless, impossible to obtain. Silver in the walls burn her, drugs keep her complacent.

If she escaped, would she be sane? If she came home a damaged werewolf, would her pack accept her…
Or kill her?

Bonus novella included: Unexpected Werewolf

Lori hadn’t expected her world to change. Go to work, avoid her asshole boss Ed and spend time with friends. Then he came into her life. With a few simple words , he altered everything. Could she accept the new and the unknown?

Hmm, what’s new with me?

Well, let’s see. No vacation coming up. No major life changing decisions made. It’s still really freaken cold outside. Oh, I know, my second book for Enforcers and Coterie has been published! *happy dance* I am so excited for this one. Oooh, and as a bonus (I feel like an infomercial telling you the extra goodies you get if you order now!), I’ve included a novella, Unexpected Werewolf, at the end of Sylvia’s Torment. A book and half for the price of one! 😉 Don’t worry though, no cliffhangers and each one can be read as a standalone.

Thanks to my absolutely amazing editor, Elizabeth, this book is immensely better than the first. Don’t believe me? Well how about these snippets from 4 and 5 star reviews?

“Fast-paced, never a dull moment in the entire length of this novel, and an excellent set of characters have been introduced. Out of all the characters, Sylvia is no doubt my favorite. Despite everything she went through, she’s still kickass. Derek, on the other hand, is delish. Ha!” ~ Katrina

“This was a GREAT read. LOVED Derek, hot sexy bad-ass Alpha with a heart—Hell YEAH! Sylvia was also wonderful, the trama she goes through and her journey back to herself is incredibly compelling. I adored these two together and I love the world Del Rosa has created. The Enforcers, the Coterie, the myriad of races and all their quirks, it’s awesome.” ~ Heather B.

“The sex…was phenomenal. It was straight to the point, no fancy words or imagery to get in the way of an amazing literary experience *cough*. Derek sounds like a wild beast in the bedroom, but I LOVED the twist that Veronica (the author) threw in there! I don’t want to give too much away because it was a very exciting experience.” ~ Heather S.

“The plot was exciting and moved at a brisk pace. There were numerous thrilling and violent showdowns between villains and the good guys, along with many sweet (and VERY HOT) scenes between Sylvia and Derek. ” ~ Erika

Now doesn’t that sound tempting, like an exciting book to snuggle into? It’s available at both Amazon and Smashwords.

Cover Reveal for Sylvia’s Torment

I decided to try my hand at creating my own cover art for Sylvia’s Torment. I found the perfect Derek (isn’t he just yummy?!) and a fantastic Sylvia. I knew what I wanted and how I want it to look. Within about 10 minutes, though, I was ready to give up. Nothing was making sense to me, and I had no clue how to use half the tools. Talk about frustrating!

I complained to my husband, okay, I whined and instead of rolling his eyes at me, he showed me which tools to use in I never knew the lasso tool was so darn amazing, and just a little bit aggravating, too. The letters for the title were created by removing the inside part of the lettering and then overlaying it on fire. I do love how it looks.

Almost done NaNoWriMo

I’ve learned something about myself this past month. I can not constantly write a large amount of words each day. I burn out. My ideas and thoughts swirl around each other, making no sense. I can’t seem to grasp the storyline and plot. My mind jumps everywhere and I hate what I write.
I need the little breaks I take. It gives me a chance to digest what I’ve written and where the story is going. Sure, I have an outline (very bare bones) but the characters evolve as I write about them. They show me how they would react in a situation and it nudges the story in a different direction sometimes.
Even worse I had no time to read. I’m obsessive over reading. Absolutely love to do so. Usually it’s a book a day but this month I’ve only read one. That’s it, just one! Thankfully the book was fantastic and I loved it. However it showed me how much I was missing by keeping up this pace of writing.
After this month is over, I will go back to my original writing schedule. The next book, Sylvia’s Torment, will be out in January. Five months between books seems like a fair time to me, especially since this book will also include a bonus novella.

Misbehaving Characters

The past two days I’ve been in a writing slump. The words refused to come to me, the characters thumbed their noses at me and I had nothing but crap to show for all my hard work. Okay, fine, I wasn’t working as hard as I should have. I’d blame the head cold, except that’s a cop-out.

The truth is, I didn’t listen to my characters. I forgot who they were and how they’re react to certain situations. As this is the 4th book of the series and the three main characters have appeared throughout, they have established who they are. Three strong-willed, opinionated and passionate characters.  And I was doing them a disservice.

Some of the scenes were spot on. Their personality shone through, as long as they weren’t interacting with each other. And other scenes were mired down with flatness. Hell, I didn’t want to read it again! Not good when the author is also bored. When the major revel occurred, it was hum-ho. The characters just kinda sat around going “Now what?” Yep, it was pretty damn terrible.

Which begs the question of how the hell am I fixing this?

I did what any good writer did. I thought about it. *laughs* Yep, just sat around thinking. It doesn’t sound like hard work, but damn it’s difficult. After a day and half of mulling it over, processing it, looking through notes and just plain old thinking, I figured it out. I need to start at the beginning and rewrite everything. There are some passages I will keep although it won’t be presented the same way. The interactions with the characters will change.

I listened to the characters and now hopefully they’ll stop screwing around and make a beautiful story with me. 😉

Day 11 on NaNoWriMo

Overall I’m doing quite well with my writing goals. Each day I’m hitting 2,500 although today I kinda sucked. I only wrote 1,100 words. *sigh* Which means I’m 1,400 words behind.

The words I wrote today, well, they were terrible. It was to be a major revel and fell flat. However I’m not doing any editing during this month. If I do, I’ll never reach 50k in a month. I figure lay the groundwork first and then make it shine once it’s all written.

I’ll share a snippet that I’m proud of though. I like the emotions this scene conveys.

He played a dangerous game. One he had no hope of winning.

“Show yourself, Revenant,” she murmured.

“And if I don’t want to?” he asked as he trailed a finger down her bare arm.

Her hair reached for him, needing what he promised. Treacherous hair couldn’t tell the different between the two men. It responded to her desire and didn’t care if Revenant was forbidden.

“Markus is my lover, not you.”

“But I could be.” Again his lips brushed her cheek, dangerously close to her lips. “All you have to do is say yes.”

“I can’t. I love him.”

“You love me as well.”

“That doesn’t matter. He has my heart and my loyalty. I will not betray him”

“Damn you. And damn him.” His breath fanned across the back of her head and his hands ran down her arms. “He doesn’t deserve your loyalty. This is his fault. He knew what would happen. Knew I’d come to love you as deeply as he does.”

“Revenant…” she sighed, hating the pain he felt. There was nothing she could do though.

“Don’t. I don’t want to hear excuses for him.”

My Books, Rambling about life, Writing Tips

I’ve taken the plunge and signed up for NaNoWriMo. Last year wasn’t possible as I had no clue what to do. This year I’m more prepared. I have a  outline. I know my characters. And I have a daily goal to meet.
Now I just need life to follow my desires so I have the time to write. 😉
Writing with an outline is a new concept to me. Not that I hadn’t heard of it before but I’ve never used one. An idea would come to me for a story and I’d start writing. Since I’m doing a series, I do have a clue about where it’s heading but not all the little side trips along the way.
Most times I stare at the ceiling and wait for inspiration to hit. Usually I just get dust in my eye. With a tight schedule I don’t have time to twiddle my thumbs which means making an outline.
True to my myself,  the outline is very sparse.
M meets with S.
R follows S.
and etc. until I’m at the end of the book. I’ve put all the major points I want to hit. Goodness knows with my memory I’ll forget something.
I’ve also good a breakdown for the important problems and the difficulty in solving said problems.
I have to say, it feels great having it written down for me to refresh my mind.
Next up, create a character outline to ferret out any secrets they’re hiding from me. I do know the characters as this is the fourth book in the series and each one has appeared multiple times, but you never know what they might be hiding.

Monday blues

The end of the weekend and the start of a new work week is not my favourite thing. However I do enjoy going to work as it gives me the peace and quiet needed to write. Or in this case, edit. So much editing to do. I believe I’m now done 34 pages so I’m inching closer to the finish line. Yay!
NaNoWriMo is almost upon us and I’m antsy to start although worried too. The ideas are percolating in my mind,  begging for freedom. I just hope they continue flowing.
And thank you to everyone who downloaded a copy of Magic Resistant this weekend. I hope you enjoy. 🙂
