Cover Reveal – Dragon Moon

Today we have a special guest. Not only is she my fabulous cover artist, but she’s also a writer, Julie Nicholls. And she has a new book in the works along with giving us a sneak peak to her new cover. Now to turn over my blog to Julie.

Hi!

Thank you very much for letting me take over your blog today to reveal the cover for my latest novel, Dragon Moon.

This is a Teen & Young Adult Fantasy, and I hope to publish with Amazon’s Kindle Scout program, if it is accepted.

The story concerns Scarlett, an almost nineteen year old who is undecided about her future. Throughout her school life she has been the subject of ridicule and bullying because of her flame, red hair. While college was easier, because she stood up for herself, she can’t make up her mind if University is the place she wants to be, and is taking some time out from studying to decide. She visits the Nottingham Goose Fair, and meets Dizelli, a psychic, who gives her a gold pendant and instructs her to wear it to bed.

Scarlett wakes up the next morning but she’s not in her bed, or her home. She’s in a field. In her pajama’s.

Her adventure begins and she’s thrown into a world of dragons and magic. She’s the Dragon Mage, and it’s her responsibility to save the dragons from slaughter, and also bring two warring tribes together.

There are just a few days left before the Dragon Moon arrives. All the dragons currently asleep, protecting their eggs could die unless Scarlett finds a way to unite the silver haired, and black haired races together and to stop Lord Ithel from killing the elder dragon who knows the secret location of the dragon eggs.

Here’s a sneaky peek!

No matter what Elyan’s surprise is, at least it’s another lovely day out. The sun is shining and despite the cool breeze, it’s perfect for riding. We set off at a walk but once outside the city walls, Elyan kicks his horse and he’s off. I have a hard time keeping up on Sootli; bless her. Once he reaches the foothills, he slows and when I catch up to him, he pulls off to the left instead of the path through the mountain.

“Where are you going?” I ask.

He doesn’t answer and just waves at me as he trots ahead. He’s in charge again; he can’t help it.

We ride for only a little way, and then the smell hits me.

Vanillian.

Soon we’re looking at a blanket of white flowers. They stretch along the side of the track as far as the eye can see, and the smell is amazing. Elyan dismounts and wraps the reins around a fallen tree. He helps me down and leads me to the huge log where we both sit.

I can’t stop sniffing the air and notice he’s staring. “What?”

He smiles and I notice for the first time how charming he looks when he’s not scowling.

“I know how much you like Vanillian and thought you would like to see where it grows. Am I right?”

“Yes! Thanks.”

I’m smiling as I look at him and see him in a different light. He can be thoughtful when he puts his mind to it. He stares at me for several moments, his gaze unfathomable. Do I want to know what he’s thinking?

“I am sorry for my behavior yesterday with Mostyn,” he says.

Wow! Didn’t see that coming.

“I expect learning he and your sister were an item was a bit of a shock.”

“I learned something else too. From my father.”

“What was it?” I ask as if I don’t know.

“That there was someone else he loved before mother. I am not angry about that. He expected me to be, though. I have a reputation, it seems.”

I can see a hint of a grin forming.

“My father relies on me to protect the town. While I have my warriors to aid, I am constantly on my guard. My responsibility to our people is foremost on my mind.”

“That’s why you’re so wound up, Elyan. You’re stressed out.”

I know how he feels. In my last year of college I was worrying over my exams, the bullying, and concerns about my life after college. My dad said when someone is stressed, they are short-tempered, have trouble sleeping and are unable to see the positive side of things. Elyan ticks all of the above. People don’t realize they are stressed, but once it’s pointed out to them, it becomes clearer.

“What am I to do? This is my life. I am responsible for our people.”

“I understand you have an important role, but you don’t have to do it on your own. You have warriors who follow your lead. They are just as capable as you are. Let them take some of the pressure.”

Elyan narrows his eyes as he looks at me. He’s listening to what I’m saying rather than spouting off. That’s a good sign.

“But will they then act as I do? Become ‘snippety’ as you say?” He grins.

“No, I don’t believe they will. If you divide the tasks between yourselves, it will be less of a burden. Do you see that?”

“Yes, I do.”

It could be my imagination, but I swear he looks less stressed already. He’s a smart cookie and I know I whined about him plenty of times, but he isn’t a bad person. Actually, as he is now–calm and thoughtful–he’s very attractive. He was already ranking high on my “hot men” chart, but it was his attitude that stopped him reaching a higher position.

Oh, I know you think I’m mean, but I bet I’m not the only one who has a score card.

“When we return home after the meeting today, you can gather your warriors and delegate your duties. Start enjoying your life, Elyan.”

“I like the way you think. You are as smart as my father said.”

“Did he say that?”

“Yes, last night after you left. I spoke with him for a while, and he believes you are too wise for your age.” He chuckles.

Ha! I think what the Earl said probably went something along the lines of “she’s too big for her boots.” But I’ll accept it as a compliment anyway.

Elyan is looking at me again. Not quite a stare but his gaze is lingering and I know I’m blushing. My cheeks are on fire. I’d like to know what he’s thinking. Wait…maybe that’s not a good idea. There’s a glint in his eye, which isn’t a bad thing, but I’ve got too much to think about at the moment.

Extremely bad timing.

“Are all the women in your town like you?” he asks.

“No. They are much nicer.” I laugh. “Women are equal to men, though. They share responsibility, work and some earn such a good wage that the man plays househusband and takes care of the children.”

“That is a story you have made up.” He laughs. “It is a woman’s responsibility to tend the children.”

I’m surprisingly calm after that misogynistic statement. In all fairness, he lives in a world where men are chivalrous and women are skivvies, and that’s not entirely his fault. However, I will nevertheless attempt to enlighten him of why a role doesn’t need to be filled by only one sex.

Here goes.

“Elyan, I’m going to explain something to you which you may find surprising. Women are quite capable of fulfilling any job a man is tasked with. The only difference is that some women might struggle depending on the physical strength required, but that does not mean that some women are not a strong as some men. There are some who are stronger.”

He’s shaking his head, so I continue.

“Women are in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Where I’m from, we are ruled by a Queen, as are many other countries. So you see… there’s nothing a man can do that a woman cannot. As for taking care of children, why shouldn’t a man look after his child? There’s no rule that says a woman should be the only person to wipe a baby’s bottom!”

He laughs and shakes his head. “You are making this up, surely?”

“No, I’m not.”

I look at him and wonder how he would cope if he were to visit my world. Not only because of the women’s issue but all the technology we have as well. I don’t think he could take it all in, although he might have fun playing my X box.

“I should like to see this for myself. Your world sounds interesting. Do you think I would like it?”

“There are some wonders that would impress you, Elyan, but just as you have problems here, we also have them. Countries fight one another and man has built horrendous machines and created poisons that could kill us all. People starving to death live side by side with people who are so rich, they will never be able to spend their money before they die.”

He’s listening closely.

“Our world is full of different races and we are not all the same color. Whole nations have been targeted because of the color of their skin or religious beliefs. So you see it’s important that we try and resolve the issues here before they escalate.”

Elyan narrows his eyes. He’s thinking hard, I can see from his expression. He will be the Earl once his father passes and he could help implement changes now that would stop future warring.

“This makes you sad, does it not?”

“Yes, very much.”

“We are from different worlds and yet, we are not so different.”

He takes my hand in his and smiles softly. He’s capable of becoming a great leader, I feel it. He has already made changes to the way he acts based on information he’s acquired. He is a smart cookie.

“We have a saying—‘there’s nothing new under the sun’–and this is so true. Wherever we are in the world, whether we’re black-skinned or white, if we have black or white hair, or we worship the sun or the moon, we are all human beings and we have a right to be free and to live.”

“We shall have that here, Scarlett. I promise. I will do everything within my power to make Lord Ithel understand we must live together in peace.”

Elyan pushes up and pulls me with him. “You will show us how to make a start. Will you not?”

Thank you for taking the time to read the sneaky peek… you can read another on my official website www.julienicholls.com to the page, Dragon Moon where a link will be added once the book is available for purchase.

 Blood Ties

The morning looked promising. Keagen was on the road, traveling to a small town he’d never heard of. Filled with elation, thoughts of catching his prey made him smile. There was no need to rush. Despite his need to snag the escapee, he took a leisurely drive. Intel he received advised of a stranger who’d set up house in Dewburn Falls, and was deemed a ‘badass.’

Keagen smirked. There’s a new player coming to town. Move over badass.

Relaxing into the soft leather seat of the BMW 328i, one of Keagen’s favorite rides, he took in the scenery and thought about his plan of action. Meticulously organized, he always had a fallback plan. He wasn’t at home being Mr. Cock-up, and hated if someone fucked up, which wasn’t too often as he mostly worked alone. Forced to team up on one occasion, it didn’t go well, resulting in a few deaths. Kicking off, Keagen said it was either his way, or he was retiring, which was funny considering they owned him; despite his reluctance to admit it. While he was comfortable, he’d put up with their shit and continued along his merry way. Doing their dirty work. With access to fast cars, the best weaponry, some not even on the market officially, and recreation time to fuck, life was good. He wanted it to continue.

His mind took him back to when it wasn’t so pleasurable, and his hands tightened around the steering wheel as he growled. While he didn’t have many memories remaining, he knew it wasn’t good. Faded scars on his body were the only reminders of his childhood, since Solgen wiped his memory. It was the standard protocol to start with a clean mind, and easier. Still perfecting the procedure, the scientists had made a few errors, but Keagen was their most successful guinea pig. Receiving top marks in all the tests, he confirmed loyalty to the company and, therefore, was allowed to leave the compound. At first, he was under supervision, but that had soon changed. After excelling in each mission within a few months, his reputation soared. Managing a hundred percent retrieval rate, with a required eighty percent coming in alive, he was the top dog. The twenty percent died because they resisted capture and return back to the labs. Keagen was strong. At the start of his hunting career, he didn’t know his own strength. Rarely bringing home a dead one these days, he’d learned to master his body and the enhancements.

Blood Ties is a paranormal/shifter/romance story.

Meet K 3 4 G E N – He’s not quite human.

Sweat ran down Keagen’s muscular back as he pressed the female against the wall. A rock-hard body, with perfect proportions and stamina that would outlast a stable of thoroughbred racehorses, was nowhere near to flagging. He’d pounded the woman for the last hour, nonstop. The female on the receiving end of his attention cried herself hoarse more than twenty minutes earlier. She needed to rest, but large hands cupped her ass, supporting her weight, and only when he’d had enough would he let her down.

With the air-con turned up high the smell of fresh sweat and sex hung in the air. Keagen loved to fuck; he had some catching up to do after his sex-starved existence for the first part of his adult life. Puffing out a few quick breaths, he built up his pace. He was ready for a beer and wanted the woman out of his room.

Keagen was tall, muscular, and stronger than most men were, although he wasn’t exactly a man. His genes were human DNA with a hint of animal, courtesy of Solgen Laboratories. It wasn’t common knowledge what the company did, and their labs were all in secret locations. Only their financial backers knew where they were. Who supported them was unclear. Possibly the government, private military organizations, or even wealthy dictators; no one knew. You would not find any documentation about it. It wasn’t legal what they were doing, that’s for sure.

Keagen tracked and hunted escapees and always caught his prey, but just one eluded him, and it pissed him off. Nevertheless, he was closing in, and soon he’d return to base with his prize in tow. Given free reign to come and go as he pleased, Keagen enjoyed the freedom, and as long as he brought in the bounty, all was well. Sometimes out in the field for days or weeks at a time, he upheld contact by phone; a check-in, but he wasn’t worried. Sometimes he needed ‘Keagen’ time. Holding up at his secret hideaway, or a motel, where a steady stream of females frequented his room, he could easily fob off his supervisor. The geneticists made the mistake of giving him just a little too much intelligence. Consequently, his IQ already rivaled some of the top minds in the world, and he was smart enough to hide that fact from his testers.

Grunting and hissing through gritted teeth, Keagen screamed his orgasm as he fucked the flagging woman; those last deep thrusts into her satisfied pussy filling the room with a guttural cry. Throwing his head back, his wet hair slapped against his shoulders. The muscles in his thighs held the female firmly against the wall for a few moments until his hips finally stilled and finished jerking. Catching his breath, he rested his head against the cool plaster before releasing the sighing woman. As she tried to stand her knees buckled, but he quickly scooped her up and laid her on the bed.

Meet Gabriel – Lycan

It was quiet in the smoke-filled bar. Just the gentle humming from the waitress broke the silence. Drew’s was a rundown place where the locals piled in after work. Mostly hanging out for just a few drinks to wind down before heading home, they used it as a stopgap, preparing for more stress from either home life, or a second job. There were the regulars who propped up the bar day and night. Jack, one of the old-timers, spent all his time drooling over the young women as they tended bar. Occasional delivery trucks would hold up in the parking lot and the drivers would drop in for coffee, just to keep from falling asleep on long hauls. Smokey and dark, with subdued lighting with wood paneling covering the walls and an unvarnished wooden floor, it was a place to relax and ponder.

Gabriel was a regular and sat at the end of the bar in his usual place. From his vantage point, he could view the entire room. He didn’t have children or work to unwind from, but still enjoyed a cool beer. Without turning his head, the washroom and entrance were all visible. He could see everyone come and go with ease. Sitting quietly, he’d listen. Unless someone started the conversation first, he’d barely speak, but take in everything.

The quiet town appealed to Gabriel. Moving here just over a year ago, he settled in easily and found a place to stay. After renovating a cabin just on the edge of town, it gave him the seclusion he desired. He could take a short drive into suburbia and have everything he needed before returning to the solace he preferred. He kept to himself and avoided confrontations. Causing trouble wasn’t in his nature. However, he came over as someone who didn’t take crap, and he would let small annoyances slide until he reached a breaking point, then you didn’t want to be around to see the fall out. On a few occasions, Gabriel let people know he wasn’t someone they should fuck with, earning him respect shortly afterward. In sleepy town bars, there’s always someone dropping by to stir up the calm. Stepping in to deal with troublemakers made him the resident bouncer. There was never any exchange of cash; he didn’t need a regular job. He just did it. Drew made sure he never went thirsty and all drinks were on the house for keeping the place brawl-free, which suited Gabriel. The more beer, the better, and he didn’t like having his peace and quiet disturbed; it was a win-win situation.

Watching Lyssa brought out his more human characteristics; he’d not always had those. A year ago, he was nothing more than a caged animal. He tried not to think about the past, but occasionally something would trigger his thoughts.

Taking a mouthful of beer, he watched everyone and everything. Casually watching Jack eye up the sweet piece of ass, he grinned. He’d been close, and was still working on getting closer. Never short of female attention, Gabriel made up for lost time as soon as he broke free from his captors. There wasn’t a huge choice of pussy in Dewburn Falls, but quality, not quantity was the issue here. Lyssa would succumb to him, eventually. They couldn’t resist him, and he was astounded she’d lasted this long; he had a feeling she’d be worth the wait. Continuing his advances and hoping for a victory soon, Lyssa proved an interesting challenge.

He wasn’t sure if it was luck, or fate, that brought him here, but finding two female lycans was a surprise. Taking a drink, he smiled as his thoughts turned to Sally. He’d been in town only two weeks and gotten lucky with her.

About me

Birthdays

birthday-cake-happy

I’m not a huge birthday person, in fact I’m not much for big celebrations. I like small get-togethers where I can spend time talking with other people. Large parties give me a headache, and I feel lost in the crowd.

Yesterday was my birthday. We didn’t do much for it, had take out from our favourite Indian restaurant, and then husband played Batman while the kid watched. Quite frankly, I enjoyed it. Even when my husband wished me a happy 25th birthday and the kid yelled, “You’re not 25, you’re 36!” Thanks kid, no supper for you! 😉

While it would be nice to spend time with other family members, they’re a few hours away. Instead I’ll make due with birthday wishes online from them. That and we’ll see them for the kid’s birthday in a few weeks.

Two other unusual things occurred on my birthday yesterday, ones that did give me a huge smile. A group I’m part of on Goodreads does a sales boost on an author’s birthday. I had several people buy one of my books so I could have the pleasure of seeing a sales spike. That was a fantastic feeling, and I’m so grateful to be part of such a wonderful group of people.

The other thing was finally getting my ass in gear and formatting my books for CreateSpace. That in itself was not fun. But seeing the cover art my wonderful cover artist, Julie, made for me was. Magic Resistant is currently uploading to me which will take a while because it’s freaken huge! CreateSpace wants it in PDF, so I’m patiently waiting for it. Then I’ll finish the rest of the process. Soon I will have paperbacks for each of my books. Yay!

I decided with the books, instead of having the novellas separate, they’ll be included with their respective novels. Throwing Away the Good is at the beginning of Magic Resistant, Unexpected Werewolf will stay with Sylvia’s Torment, and Assassinated Love will be at the end of Dawn’s Keeper.

I am so effing excited to have them in my greedy little hands. *squeal*

Interview with Cinnamon Sin

Cinnamon Sin is an indie erotica author I met a little while back when she needed some help formatting her books. Being the good Samaritan, and nosey person, I am, I agreed. Whoa boy, she’s got some hot writing. Check out this interview she did with Jen. And then check out her books.

Jen Winters is an Indie Author

  1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Sure! Well, obviously it’s a pen name, but I am Cinnamon Sin. My friend helped me pick out the name when I decided to publish some of my work. Thank god for Veronica Del Rosa! She formatted all my stuff and helped me along every step of the way.

I met you through Veronica so I know how much she means to you. She is a doll! Helped me and several other authors with formatting, so I know exactly how valuable that is.

  1. What made you decide to write erotica?

Well, I like sex and I like reading erotic stories. I had a few readers tell me my stuff was good, so I just decided to make a go of…

Not only is today Canada Day – Happy birthday Canada! – it’s also Indie Pride Day. I started the crazy trek as an indie author just over a year ago and since then I’ve met some pretty amazing people.

Heather R. Blair
Heather R. Blair – Author of the Celtic Elementals and Phoenix Inc. She keeps me sane and encourages me to keep writing. Now if only she’d finish writing Scott’s story! 😉
Rachel Chanticleer
Rachel Chanticleer – Author of The Hunter and The Witch. So can’t wait to see more from Rachel. I adored this short story. No pressure, but give me more, Rachel! 😉

Through Goodreads, I’ve met so many wonderful authors, those willing to share their knowledge and help support their fellow author. Jamie Jeffries, Abigail Sharpe, Samantha Christy, R.C. Matthews, Sawyer Belle, Sarah Curtis, Mary Crawford, and so many more. Like them on FB and see what they’re working on next.

And, of course, this wouldn’t be complete without mentioning my wonderful editor Elizabeth from Razor Sharp Editing and my cover artist Julie Nicholls. It’s hard to do everything on your own as an indie and thankfully, I don’t have to. I highly recommend working with both of them. They are both such sweethearts.
